About Jonathan

Jonathan McMillian, ASLA
Jonathan McMillian, ASLA

Jonathan began his professional planning and landscape architectural career at a design firm in Austin, Texas working on age-restricted master planned community projects in Texas and around the country. This experience was foundational for solidifying his grasp of large-scale and big-picture conceptual design.

He later moved on to another Austin-based firm in order to hone his smaller-scale, site-specific and amenity design skills including office campus and multi-family projects. This phase of his career was rewarding for Jonathan because he found he was now able to ensure that his conceptual design themes would be carried through construction documentation to the built environment. He developed internal and external project management skills and also rediscovered his intrinsic love for customer service and client interaction.

Jonathan took a position with a large firm in Houston a few years later, and moved his wife and young daughter to be near much of their extended family. His prior experience, excitement for design, and love for teaching others enabled him to contribute quickly and excel rapidly in the company.

In addition to other park design work around greater Houston, he was personally responsible for developing relationships and managing the firm’s work for, in and around The Woodlands. Jonathan’s skill set grew to include managing half the company’s staff as one of two team leaders with his personal projects totaling $1M+ annually in design fees. During this time, he had the opportunity to design and manage some truly unique and award-winning projects for the firm including East Shore and parks such as Terramont Park and Rob Fleming Park.

In early 2008, Jonathan embarked on the next exciting phase of his career. He left a great position with a good company and ventured out on his own to establish a new landscape architectural design firm he called, LANDology, where he continues to serve his clients responsively with creativity and accuracy.
