Pine Island

The most exclusive community within Woodforest by Johnson Development, Pine Island is a pedestrian oriented gated neighborhood nestled within the west 9-hole loop of the Woodforest Golf Course. Leaning heavily on traditional southern architectural precedent and understated elegance, LANDology prepared a schematic design booklet which identified and programmed the various parks, open spaces, streetscapes, and development budgets for phase one. Initial design and documentation included the gated entry at Pine Isle Blvd, Carousel Park and Streetscapes improvements complete with curb ramps, sidewalks, and street trees. The Pine Isle Blvd entry ($1M+) boasts beautifully detailed brick columns and walls with substantial metal vehicular and pedestrian gates and a manned guardhouse. Carousel Park design includes a 3-tiered cast iron fountain reminiscent of old Savannah opposite the ‘carousel plaza’- a whimsical and festive space that gives an elegant nod to carnival, circus, and fair connotation of days-gone-by. Allowed to be concealed somewhat by the existing forest, and with flowering vines encouraged to grow up the perimeter poles to the decorative ring overhead, the carousel plaza gives visitors the sense this gem has been rediscovered by recent development. Life sized painted bronze and topiary carousel animals alternate around a tall metal center pole and beneath strands of dangling café lights to create a truly unique setting within which to enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the day. The first portion of Carousel Park, now built, is an open-air, custom wrought iron building built as a gathering place and for the residents’ mailboxes. The design of this structure alludes to conservatories found at great European estates complete with potted citrus trees and hedges arranged in elegant parterre fashion.
